FEDERAL OFFICIALS
The President and Vice President are elected every four years in the General Election and they are the leaders of the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government. These two officials are the only ones who may gain office by not simply winning the majority of the popular vote. Their election is also determined by a complicated process, which varies from state to state, the Electoral College. Maryland has 10 of the 538 electoral votes. Our primary process also varies from state to state and determines who can become a party's nominee. Maryland is one of eleven states which has a "closed" primary.
